What is a gate in Human Design?

A gate in Human Design is one of 64 distinct energetic themes drawn directly from the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching. Each gate carries its own name, meaning, and quality, representing a specific potential or gift that can be activated when defined energy is present. Gates are the smallest functional units in the BodyGraph and sit at the outer edge of each of the nine centers.

Gates connect to one another through channels, which link two centers together.
