Gate 10: The Gate of Treading (Behavior of the Self)
Gate 10 is located in the G Center and corresponds to I Ching Hexagram 10 — "Treading" (Behavior). These are among the most important gates in Human Design because they govern self-love and authentic behavior.
Gate 10 is the foundation of self-acceptance. A person with these gates has the potential to live in complete alignment with their nature, expressing themselves without masks or compromise.
Why Gate 10 Is So Important
In the Human Design system, Gate 10 is part of the Integration Circuit — the most personal circuit, responsible for survival and self-sufficiency. Gate 10 sets the rules of behavior — how you conduct yourself in the world, what is acceptable to you and what is not.
- Self-love — not selfishness, but deep acceptance of your nature
- Authenticity — behavior that matches your true self
- Self-sufficiency — ability to be yourself regardless of surroundings
- Behavioral code — an inner set of rules for how to live correctly (for you)
Channels of Gate 10
Gate 10 can form several channels:
Channel 10-20: The Channel of Awakening
Connection to the Throat Center through Gate 20. This is the channel of existential "here and now" behavior. A person with Channel 10-20 lives in the moment, their behavior a spontaneous expression of self-love.
Channel 10-34: The Channel of Exploration
Connection to the Sacral Center through Gate 34. This is the channel of powerful individual behavior. A person with Channel 10-34 has the strength to live by their own rules, regardless of society's opinion.
Channel 10-57: The Channel of Perfect Form
Connection to the Splenic Center through Gate 57. This is the channel of intuitive authenticity. Behavior is guided by deep intuition — the body knows how to behave correctly.
Gate 10 and Deconditioning
In the process of deconditioning, Gate 10 plays a key role. Deconditioning is a return to your true nature, and Gate 10 points to what behavior is authentic for you.
If you have spent your life behaving as others expected, Gate 10 will help you find your true style of existence.
Shadow, Gift, and Siddhi
- Shadow — Self-Obsession: behavior that contradicts your nature, suppressing yourself
- Gift — Naturalness: spontaneous, authentic behavior without effort
- Siddhi — Being: complete self-acceptance, every action an expression of pure being
Practical Tips
- Practice self-love — this is not selfishness but the foundation of a healthy life
- Observe your behavior — what do you do for others versus for yourself?
- Drop the masks — authenticity begins with honesty with yourself
- Allow yourself to be yourself — even if others don't like it
