The Bodygraph — Your Energy Map
The bodygraph (rave chart) is a diagram of 9 centers, 64 gates, and 36 channels that shows your unique energy configuration. At first glance it looks complex, but you can read it step by step. Calculate your bodygraph for free and follow this guide.
Step 1: The Overall Shape — Defined Centers
Look at your bodygraph as a whole. You will see 9 geometric shapes — these are the centers. Colored (defined) centers are your stable, reliable energy. White (undefined) centers are zones where you are open to the influence of others.
The more colored centers you have, the more "fixed" your energy. The more white centers, the more you sense and amplify the energy of others.
Step 2: Identify Your Type
Type is determined by the configuration of centers and channels:
- Generator: Defined Sacral center, no motor connection to the Throat
- Manifesting Generator: Defined Sacral + motor connection to the Throat
- Projector: Undefined Sacral, no motor connection to the Throat
- Manifestor: Undefined Sacral + motor connection to the Throat
- Reflector: All 9 centers undefined

Step 3: Find Your Authority
Authority shows you the best way to make decisions. It is determined by the hierarchy of defined centers. For example, if the Solar Plexus is defined, authority is emotional. If not, but the Sacral is defined, authority is sacral.
Read about all authority types in detail in our article Authority in Human Design.
Step 4: Read Your Profile
The profile consists of two numbers — the lines of the Sun in your calculation. The first number (conscious Personality) and the second (unconscious Design) describe your life role. For example, profile 3/5 means Martyr-Heretic.
Step 5: Explore Defined Channels
Channels are connections between centers. A defined channel (fully colored) means both gates at its ends are activated. Each channel carries a specific theme and energy.
Pay attention to color: red is unconscious Design, black is conscious Personality, striped means both are present.
Step 6: Study Activated Gates
Gates are individual activations, even if the full channel is not defined. Each gate has its theme from the I Ching (Book of Changes). Gates without an opposite connection are called "hanging" — they seek completion in other people.
What to Look at First?
For beginners, we recommend this order of priorities:
- Type and strategy — this is 80% of the practical value of Human Design
- Authority — how to make correct decisions
- Profile — your role and interaction style
- Defined centers — your stable qualities
- Undefined centers — where you are vulnerable to conditioning
- Channels and gates — details of your configuration
