Theme Within Gate 27: Caring Through Trial and Error
Gate 27, "The Corners of the Mouth" — Yi — is the gate of nourishment. It is the energy that asks: What is needed, and how shall I feed it? The hexagram's image of the open mouth receiving and transforming food describes the entire principle of caring: the willingness to take in, to chew, to metabolise, to provide. At its healthy root, this is the loving, life-affirming force that fuels the world.
When this gate falls into the 3rd line, caring becomes a laboratory. The 27/3 learns to nourish not by formula but by experimentation.
