What Is a Type in Human Design?
Type is the most fundamental element of your Human Design. It defines your energetic nature, your strategy for interacting with the world, and the correct way to make decisions. There are 5 types: Generator, Manifesting Generator, Projector, Manifestor, and Reflector.
Knowing your type is the first step to understanding your nature. It's like learning whether you have a "gasoline engine" or an "electric motor" — different engines need different fuel.
Step 1: Prepare Your Data
To calculate your bodygraph, you need three things:
1. Date of Birth
Day, month, and year. The simplest part — most people know their birth date.
2. Exact Time of Birth
This is the most critical element. Even a few minutes' difference can change your design. Here's where to find it:

Calculate your chart- Birth certificate: most countries record the time of birth
- Hospital records: contact the hospital or archives
- Parents: ask your mother — she often remembers
- Hospital bracelet: if preserved
What if you don't know the time? You can try rectification — birth time correction through life event analysis. You can also calculate for noon (12:00) as an approximation, but results will be less accurate.
3. Place of Birth
City and country. This is needed to determine the time zone and exact coordinates that affect planetary positions.
Step 2: Calculate Your Bodygraph

- Enter your name (for convenience — can be anything)

- Enter your exact time of birth
- Specify your place of birth (start typing the city name)

Step 3: Find Your Type
After calculation, your type appears at the top of the results. Here's what each means:
Generator (~37% of population)
Defined Sacral Center, no motor connection to the Throat Center.
- Strategy: wait and respond
- Signature: satisfaction
- Not-Self: frustration
- Aura: open, enveloping
Manifesting Generator (~33%)
Defined Sacral Center + motor connection to the Throat.
- Strategy: wait, respond, inform
- Signature: satisfaction
- Not-Self: frustration + anger
- Special quality: non-linear path, multitasking
Projector (~20%)
No defined Sacral Center, no motor connection to the Throat.
- Strategy: wait for the invitation
- Signature: success
- Not-Self: bitterness
- Superpower: seeing others deeply
Manifestor (~8%)
Motor connection to the Throat Center, no defined Sacral.
- Strategy: inform before acting
- Signature: peace
- Not-Self: anger
- Superpower: initiating, starting new things
Reflector (~1%)
No centers defined. The rarest type.
- Strategy: wait a lunar cycle (28 days)
- Signature: surprise
- Not-Self: disappointment
- Superpower: mirror for others, environmental sensing
Step 4: What Else You'll See
Beyond type, your bodygraph contains a wealth of information:
- Authority: how to correctly make decisions (emotional, sacral, splenic, etc.)
- Profile: your social role (e.g., 3/5, 6/2)
- Defined Centers: your stable energy (colored)
- Open Centers: zones of learning and vulnerability (white)
- Channels: your innate talents and qualities
- Gates: 64 archetypal themes in your design
- Incarnation Cross: your life purpose
Step 5: Begin the Experiment
Human Design is not a belief system — it's an experiment. Ra Uru Hu said: "Don't believe me — try it yourself."

- Try living by your strategy for 3-6 months
- Observe: does the "not-self" (frustration, bitterness, anger) decrease?
