Centers and Health in Human Design: How 9 Centers Affect Your Body

How Bodygraph Centers Connect to Health

In Human Design, each of the 9 bodygraph centers is responsible not only for certain psychological and energetic functions but is also connected to specific organs and body systems. Understanding this connection helps you see where your body is stable and where it is vulnerable to external influence.

Defined centers (colored in) operate consistently and reliably. This is your fixed energy — it is always with you. Open centers (white) are places where you absorb and amplify the energy of other people. It is precisely the open centers that are zones of potential health issues if you do not understand their mechanics.

Calculate your bodygraph to see which centers are defined and which are open.

Head and Ajna: Mind and Nervous System

Head Center (Inspiration)

Connected to the pineal gland. This center is responsible for mental pressure — inspiration, questions, doubts.

  • Defined: stable source of inspiration and ideas. Health: potential headaches from idea overload.
  • Open: amplifies the mental pressure of those around you. Health: migraines, insomnia from other people's thoughts, anxiety. Tip: do not try to answer every question — not all of them are yours.

Ajna (Mental Center)

Connected to the pituitary gland (anterior and posterior lobes). Responsible for conceptualization and information processing.

  • Defined: fixed way of thinking. Health: eye strain, headaches from concentration.
  • Open: flexible mind, but prone to mental anxiety. Health: nervous exhaustion from trying to "be certain." Tip: accept that you do not need certainty about everything.

Throat Center: Thyroid and Metabolism

The Throat Center is connected to the thyroid and parathyroid glands. It is responsible for communication, self-expression, and action (manifestation).

  • Defined: stable voice and ability to manifest. Health: thyroid issues can arise from blocking self-expression.
  • Open: attracts attention but may talk excessively to get noticed. Health: throat diseases, thyroid issues, voice problems. Tip: do not speak without being asked; wait for the right moment.

G Center, Heart, and Sacral: The Body's Core

G Center (Self)

Connected to the liver and blood. Responsible for identity, direction, and love.

  • Defined: stable sense of self and direction. Health: maintain liver health — it is your key organ.
  • Open: searching for self, dependent on place and environment. Health: liver problems, especially when trying to "be someone else." Tip: change your environment if you feel out of place.

Heart Center (Ego)

Connected to the heart, stomach, gallbladder, and thymus. Responsible for willpower, self-worth, and the material world.

  • Defined (only ~30% of people): stable willpower. Health: cardiovascular problems from overwork or excessive promises.
  • Open (~70%): amplifies pressure to prove your worth. Health: heart and stomach problems from self-assertion stress. Tip: you do not need to prove anything — your worth does not depend on achievements.

Sacral Center

Connected to the ovaries and testes. Generates life force and sexual energy.

  • Defined (Generators, MGs): stable work energy. Health: burnout from ignoring the sacral "no" response. You must sleep when the sacral is depleted.
  • Open (Projectors, Manifestors, Reflectors): amplifies others' energy. Health: chronic fatigue, hormonal imbalances from trying to "keep up" with Generators. Tip: rest before you get tired.

Solar Plexus, Spleen, and Root

Solar Plexus (Emotional Center)

Connected to the kidneys, pancreas, prostate, and lungs. Responsible for emotions, mood, and sensitivity.

  • Defined (~50%): emotional wave — from euphoria to melancholy. Health: nervous stomach, pancreatitis, kidney problems from suppressing emotions.
  • Open: a sponge for others' emotions. Health: emotional exhaustion, kidney issues. Tip: learn to distinguish your emotions from those of others.

Splenic Center

Connected to the spleen, lymphatic system, and immune system. Responsible for intuition, health, and the survival instinct.

  • Defined: stable immunity and intuition. Health: tendency to ignore body signals due to "feeling fine."
  • Open: unstable immunity, amplifies fears. Health: frequent colds, allergies, lowered immunity. Tip: do not hold onto what is unhealthy for you — people, places, food.

Root Center

Connected to the adrenal glands. Generates adrenaline pressure — stress, drive, urgency.

  • Defined: stable adrenaline level and stress resilience. Health: adrenal exhaustion from constant pressure.
  • Open: amplifies external pressure and urgency. Health: adrenal problems, chronic stress, panic attacks. Tip: rushing is not your nature — slow down.

Practical Health Recommendations

Understanding your centers is the first step toward a conscious approach to health:

  1. Identify your open centers — these are your vulnerability zones. Do not try to be stable where you are open.
  2. Rest from conditioning — spend time alone to "clear" other people's energy from your open centers.
  3. Listen to your body — your authority (especially Splenic and Sacral) knows what is healthy for you.
  4. Do not compare — if you have an open sacral, you will never have the same endurance as a Generator. And that is perfectly fine.

Explore your centers' health in detail in the "Health" tab of your personal bodygraph. Learn more about centers and their functions in the learning section.
