Why 7 Years?
In Human Design, deconditioning is the process of returning to your true design after years of living through the conditioning of undefined centers. This process takes approximately 7 years, and this is not an arbitrary number.
Science tells us that every 7 years, the body's cells are completely renewed. Every cell in your body is replaced by a new one during this cycle. When you begin living according to your strategy and authority, new cells form under the influence of correct decisions rather than conditioning. After 7 years, you literally become a new person — physically and energetically.
What Happens at Each Stage
Deconditioning is not a linear process. Here is an approximate description of what to expect:
Years 1-2: Awareness and Discomfort
The first years are the hardest. You begin to see your conditioning but cannot yet fully let it go.
- The feeling of "I have been doing everything wrong" is normal and will pass
- Old habits pull you back — especially under stress
- Relationships may change — not everyone likes your "new self"
- Frequent question: "Am I doing this right?"
Years 3-4: Practice and Letting Go
Strategy and authority begin to feel more natural. You fall into Not-Self traps less often.
- "Aha, so that is how it works!" moments become more frequent
- You begin to trust your process
- The old life "falls away" — jobs, people, and habits that are not yours
- It may feel like loss — but it is liberation
Years 5-7: Integration and New Identity
You begin living as the real you. Strategy is no longer effort but a natural state.
- Decisions come more easily — you know what is yours and what is not
- New relationships and opportunities arrive "correctly"
- The Not-Self theme (frustration, anger, bitterness, disappointment) significantly decreases
- A feeling of peace and rightness about your path
Signs of Deconditioning
How do you know the process is working? Here are the key signs:
- Less Not-Self theme — Generators are less frustrated, Projectors less bitter, Manifestors less angry
- Easier decisions — you more quickly recognize what is "yours" and what is not
- More energy — you stop spending force on what is not yours
- Better sleep — especially if you started sleeping according to PHS
- Right people — people who resonate with your true design appear in your life
- Less struggle — life becomes less "hard" even if circumstances have not changed
- Center awareness — you distinguish "mine" from "not mine" in open centers
Common Pitfalls
There are several common traps on the deconditioning path:
- Mental deconditioning — reading about HD instead of living it. Knowledge without practice is another form of conditioning
- Perfectionism — "I failed to follow my strategy again!" Deconditioning is not perfect rule-following. It is a process, and mistakes are part of it
- Comparing with others — your process is unique. Do not compare your year 2 with someone else's year 5
- Spiritual bypassing — using HD terminology to justify ego-driven decisions: "My authority said..." (when it was actually the mind)
- Expecting results — deconditioning is not a project with a deadline. It is a way of living
- Isolation — avoiding people "to not get conditioned." Conditioning is not the enemy; awareness is the key
Strategy and Authority — Your Tools
The entire deconditioning process comes down to two simple (but not easy) things:
- Type strategy:
- Generator/MG — wait for Sacral response
- Projector — wait for the invitation for major decisions
- Manifestor — inform before acting
- Reflector — wait 28 days of the lunar cycle
- Inner authority — your unique way of making decisions. Emotional, Sacral, Splenic, Ego, G-Center, or lunar cycle
This is your compass. Everything else — gates, channels, profile, cross — is the map. But without a compass, the map will not help.
How to Start Today
You do not need to wait for a special moment. Deconditioning begins with the first conscious decision made according to strategy and authority:
- Build your bodygraph and memorize your type, strategy, and authority
- For one week, simply observe — where do you make decisions with your mind instead of your authority?
- Start with small decisions — what to eat, where to go, whom to meet
- Keep a journal — record when you followed your strategy and what came of it
- Be patient — 7 years seems long, but every day of correct decisions brings you closer to yourself
Study your undefined centers — these are the zones where conditioning is strongest. And remember: you are already perfect in your design. Deconditioning is not about becoming someone new; it is about returning to who you have always been.
