Emotional Authority: There Is No Truth in the Moment
Emotional Authority (Solar Plexus Authority) is the most common authority type in Human Design, found in about 50% of people. Its core principle: "There is no truth in the moment."
This means a person with Emotional Authority should never make decisions impulsively. Every important decision needs time — you must ride through a full emotional wave cycle.
How the Emotional Wave Works
The Solar Plexus generates an emotional wave — oscillations from hope to pain, from enthusiasm to disappointment. This wave has no external cause — it operates autonomously.
There are three types of waves:
- Tribal wave (channels 19-49, 37-40, 6-59) — gradual rise, sudden crash
- Individual wave (channel 39-55) — unpredictable mood swings
- Collective wave (channels 41-30, 36-35) — even oscillation between hope and pain
Decision-Making Practice
For someone with Emotional Authority, the correct decision is one that feels right at different points of the wave:
- Step 1 — Notice your first impression, but don't act
- Step 2 — Sleep on the decision for at least one night
- Step 3 — Check your feeling in different emotional states
- Step 4 — When you reach emotional clarity (neither ecstasy nor depression), act
Emotional clarity is not 100% certainty. It is roughly 70% clarity — a sense that the decision is right even as the wave shifts.
Common Mistakes
The biggest mistake is deciding at the peak of emotion. In enthusiasm everything seems wonderful. In despair everything seems terrible. Neither state is the place for decisions.
The second mistake is endless postponement. Emotional Authority doesn't mean never deciding.
