Gate 23 — Assimilation, the I Ching's Po (Splitting Apart) — concerns the mutation of the mind: the taking-in of fragmentary, complex, or over-stimulating mental material and the reduction of it into something the human instrument can actually digest. The 6th harmonic of the hexagram, Line 2 sits at the second level of the structure, where the raw contents of the gate are first received, claimed, and quietly digested. This is the level of the natural talent that has not yet been offered to the world.
The Line 2 resonance — the natural, the projector, the hermit, the democrat — is classically and almost archetypally aligned with this gate's function. Where Gate 23 breaks the world down, Line 2 insists on doing that breaking-down privately, in the cave, before the world is invited in. The Shadow
