Line 5 is the projective, universalizing sixth-level harmonic of the hexagram — the line that lifts the theme of any gate out of the personal and into the public square. In the Human Design lineage, it is named The Heretic, and at its best it is The Universalizer: a leadership line that can only truly lead by challenging the established order in service of a larger truth. Standing at the top of the hexagram, Line 5 is what others see — it draws projection, followers, and resistance in equal measure.
The Theme Within the Gate
Gate 27 is the Sacral voice of Caring / Nourishment (I Ching Yi — The Corners of the Mouth), the foundational energy of the Channel of Preservation (27–50). It is the raw, in-the-body experience of wanting to care for the other, of being sustained by what we feed each other physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It is intimate, gut-level, and largely unconscious in its simplest expression — the body simply knows what is needed.
When Line 5 enters this gate, the instinct to care is no longer private. It is projected outward as a universal principle. The Line 5 individual in Gate 27 cannot help but treat caring as a philosophy, a worldview, a call to reform.
