The Line's Keynote
In the I Ching, the 5th line carries the keynote of universalization — the moment when an inner pattern is thrust outward and tested by the world. The hexagram states, "If the sovereign draws him forth, it furthers one to be inspired by great men." The 5th line is the General, the Heretic, the projected leader whose truth must eventually be seen by others to be valid at all. The Gift
When the 5th line is in its conscious and healthy expression, the Gate 3 Line 5 individual becomes a practical visionary of beginnings. They possess an almost magnetic capacity to recognize how the pieces of chaos should fall, and they communicate that vision with a kind of inevitable authority. Others sense in them the right beginning — the one that will hold. The Shadow
The not-self expression falls into projection without grounding, or worse, into the wounded seduction pattern of the 5th line: reaching others and being rejected.
