The shadow binds others through obligation, gathers people to serve a private agenda, and mistakes intensity of need for depth of love. Because the 4th line lives externally, it can lose contact with its own Solar Plexus wave — using feelings to get rather than to give — and the friendships of the shadow ultimately hollow out, leaving a trail of allies who feel used. The warmth remains technically present; it is no longer truthful.
Planetary Tone
The classical assignment for this line's relational axis is Jupiter exalted and Saturn in detriment. Jupiter is the great benefic, the planet of generosity, expansion, and — in traditional astrology — of friendship itself. Exalted here, Jupiter blesses the Line 4 with the capacity to bind widely and benevolently.
