The third line of any hexagram is the line of trial-and-error — of testing what is real by running it into the world and seeing what survives. The Six in the Third Place of 夬 is the second yin line of the lower trigram, positioned at the base of the breakthrough. Its keynote is best named "The Insight That Must Be Proven." Where the lower trigram of 夬 reaches toward action and decision, this line pauses long enough to doubt, to test, to try, to fail, and to try again. It is the Six in the third place: receptive, but stubborn in its reception.

Gate 43's natural voice is the cry of breakthrough — the Eureka, or the verdict that something has to stop. Line 3 wears this voice experimentally.
