The 2nd line of the Gate of Beginnings carries the keynote the call to initiate through withdrawn timing-wisdom. While Gate 53 as a whole speaks to gradual development and the right moment for a new beginning, Line 2 brings the natural gift of knowing when, held in reserve until recognized.

The Line Within the Gate

Line 2 is the 6th harmonic of the hexagram, the line of Crisis in the Face of Conflict. Within Gate 53, this places the natural timing-gift in a field of tension: the maturity to begin is rarely welcomed, and the developmental process almost always meets resistance. The 2nd line does not force its gift forward; it holds itself back, awaiting the moment of recognition. As a Hermit line, it must withdraw from the field of activity in order to hear what the developmental cycle requires. As a Projector line, it waits to be invited into the role of initiator.
