Lunar Authority is unique to Reflectors. Learn how the 28-day lunar cycle helps guide decisions.
Lunar Authority is a unique authority type found only in Reflectors (about 1% of the population). Since all centers are undefined, none can serve as inner authority.
Instead, the Reflector uses the 28-day lunar cycle for making important decisions.
How the Lunar Cycle Works
Over 28 days, the Moon sequentially passes through all 64 gates. Each day, the Reflector "samples" different energies:
- Days with emotional definition — when the Moon activates Solar Plexus channels
- Days with sacral energy — when the Moon defines the Sacral Center
- Days with intuitive clarity — when the Moon passes through the Splenic Center
- Days of complete openness — when no channels are activated

Calculate your chartFor important decisions, a Reflector must wait a full lunar cycle (28 days):
- Discuss the decision with different people — each offers a different perspective
- Observe your feelings each day — keep a journal
- Don't rush — even if the answer seems obvious
- After 28 days — decide based on accumulated clarity
The Reflector's Challenge
The biggest challenge is that society doesn't give Reflectors time. Learning to say "I need time" is the most important skill.

The 28 Days Up Close
The cycle is rarely a smooth arc of growing certainty. More often, it moves in weather. Tuesday the Reflector may feel a clear yes to a job offer, Thursday a hollow no, and the following Tuesday something like relief at the thought of staying put. Each of these states has a different taste and belongs to a different gate the Moon is transiting, which is why none of them should be treated as the answer on its own. A useful inner marker is whether the feeling is still there when the Moon has moved on. If a strong reaction on a day when the Solar Plexus is activated fades to indifference the next day, it was passing weather, not signal. What tends to remain after a full cycle is quieter and harder to name, more a sense of the body relaxing than a thought arriving. That bodily relaxation, noticed in the last week, is often the real decision underneath the many provisional ones.
Common Misreadings
The most frequent misreading is treating any 28-day window as a lunar cycle. A calendar month is not the same thing; the Human Design cycle begins with the New Moon and ends the day before the next one, so the window shifts each month. A Reflector who times their deliberation to the calendar rather than to the actual lunar transit will sometimes end the period right as a particularly charged configuration is beginning. Another misreading is confusing waiting with passivity. Sampling is active. The Reflector is meant to talk, notice, write down, ask questions of trusted people whose bodies respond differently. The cycle is not 28 days of sitting still, it is 28 days of moving through the gates and registering what each one stirs. A third confusion arises when the cycle ends on a day of complete openness, with no centers defined. This can feel like nothing happened. In practice, the absence of reaction across a full month, when others would have reacted to something, is itself the answer, and worth trusting as such.
What To Try In The First Few Cycles
A workable first experiment is one low-stakes decision held over a real lunar cycle, such as whether to keep a current living arrangement or renegotiate a recurring commitment. Keep a single page with the date, the Moon sign if known, and two or three lines about how the body felt that day. End each entry with a mark, for example solid, mixed, or empty, instead of a verdict. By day 28, the page will often show a pattern that the mind, chasing the loudest single day, would have missed. It also helps to name two or three people whose company consistently clarifies rather than pressures, and to talk with at least one of them across different weeks of the cycle so that the same question is heard by different ears. The skill to build is not patience in the abstract but the concrete ability to say, in the moment someone wants an answer, that the answer is not yet available, and to mean it.
