What Is the Magnetic Monopole?
In classical physics, a magnet always has two poles — north and south. The Magnetic Monopole is a hypothetical particle with only one pole. It can only attract, never repel.
In Human Design, the Magnetic Monopole isn't a hypothesis — it's a functional reality. It resides in the G Center and performs a critical function: holding the Design Crystal and Personality Crystal together. Without it, the two crystals would fly apart — body and consciousness would exist separately.
Three Functions of the Monopole
1. Connecting Two Crystals
The Monopole is the "glue" holding body and consciousness in one form. It creates the illusion of unity you experience as "yourself." In reality, "you" are two separate crystals connected by the Monopole.
2. Identity
The G Center is the center of identity, love, and direction. The Monopole in the G Center determines who you are and how others see you. G Center gates (1, 2, 7, 10, 13, 15, 25, 46) describe facets of your identity.
3. Direction
The Monopole determines your trajectory of movement through space and time. This isn't a metaphor — the Monopole literally "pulls" you in the right direction when you live according to your strategy and authority.
That's why Ra said: you don't need to know where you're going. The Monopole knows. Your job is to trust strategy and authority, and the Monopole will take care of direction.
G Center: Defined vs Undefined
Defined G Center
If your G Center is defined (colored), you have a fixed identity and direction. You know who you are and have a stable sense of self regardless of surroundings.
Undefined G Center
If the G Center is open (white), your identity and direction are flexible and changeable. You "try on" different identities and directions, and that's normal. You're not "lost" — you're exploring.
An open G Center has special wisdom: the ability to see and understand different identities. But the trap is trying to "fix" an identity.
The Monopole and Love
The G Center is also the center of love. The Monopole attracts the right people and circumstances to you. When you live by strategy and authority, the Monopole creates the correct geometry — you end up in the right place at the right time.

- Calculate your bodygraph and look at your G Center: defined or open?
- Study your G Center gates — they describe facets of your identity
- Stop searching for direction with your mind — trust the Monopole and your authority
- If G Center is open — don't try to "find yourself." Your strength is identity flexibility
