May 2024 Astrology Transits: What the Sky Activates This Month
April was a lot. A solar eclipse in Aries, a lunar eclipse in Libra, and the long-awaited Jupiter–Uranus conjunction in Taurus shook the foundations of how we relate, what we value, and what we believe is possible. May is not a return to normal. It is the month we learn how to live inside the new template.
The sky this month asks us to land, tend, and listen. Here is what is being activated and how to actually use it.
The Big Picture: From Lightning to Soil
Spring 2024 has been an eclipse season plus a once-in-fourteen-years Jupiter–Uranus meetup in Taurus. Both signatures are about breakthrough — the kind that feels less like a door opening and more like the wall disappearing. The cost of that kind of shift is that for a few weeks, the ground feels unfamiliar.
May is the stabilization month. The transits slow down. The focus moves from outer event to inner embodiment. Taurus is the body, the land, the bank account, the appetite, the nervous system. Whatever changed in April, May asks: can you actually live here?
May 1 — Mars Enters Taurus
Mars leaves Aries, the sign it rules, and steps into Taurus, the sign it has to slow down in. After months of fast, reactive, push-through energy, your drive gets earthy. Routines matter now. What you do with your hands matters. How you move your body through the day matters more than how much you accomplish.
For the first week or so of May, you may notice a strange heaviness or a lower tolerance for rushing. Honor it. This is the start of a roughly six-week cycle where your actions get more deliberate, slower, and more rooted.
May 7 — New Moon in Taurus (18°)
This is the headline transit of the month. A new moon at 18° Taurus lands almost exactly on the Jupiter–Uranus conjunction point from April 20. That is rare. That is significant.
A new moon is a six-month seed cycle. A new moon on top of a Jupiter–Uranus conjunction is a flashpoint of becoming. The territory being opened: money, resources, self-worth, the body, the land, what you actually own and how you actually earn.
This is not a new moon for big declarations. It is a new moon for small, embodied, real beginnings. A new savings plan. A conversation about rent. Changing how you eat. Touching soil. Taurus does not theorize — it grows.
Write down what you want to be true by November. Then ask your body if the first step is doable. The body has a vote.
Mid-May — Mercury Cazimi in Taurus
Around May 6, Mercury joins the Sun in the heart of Taurus, just before the new moon. Cazimi windows are short — a day or two of unusually clear thinking. Use it. If a decision has been circling, this is the moment it lands. Mercury in Taurus thinks slowly and finishes what it starts. Good for contracts, conversations about money, and saying the thing you have been circling.
May 20 — Sun Enters Gemini
The seasonal light shifts. The sun leaves the fixed earth of Taurus and enters the mutable air of Gemini. The mood quickens. Curiosity returns. The body loosens, the mind opens, and suddenly you want to talk to everyone, read everything, change your plans.
This is the threshold into summer in the northern hemisphere. The next three weeks will feel lighter, faster, more social. Don't fight it — but don't lose the Taurus gains either. The trick of late Gemini is to stay light without becoming scattered.
May 23 — Full Moon in Sagittarius (2°)
The full moon lands at the very beginning of Sagittarius, which is the same degree family as last year's Aries–Libra eclipse axis. Something you started, or something that started you, around spring 2023 is now ready to be seen clearly.
Sagittarius full moons are about truth. Not the kind you argue with — the kind you stop running from. What do you actually believe now, six weeks into the new year? Where have you outgrown a story? Where are you still performing one?
This full moon is quieter than April's but it cuts deep. Late May and early June are a good window for honest conversations, travel if it calls you, and any kind of study or practice that expands your sense of what is possible.
How To Use May
A few simple anchors:
Lead with the body. Taurus season runs through May 20. Sleep, food, walking, water, touch. The transits this month land in the nervous system before they land in the mind.
Make the new moon small. Pick one tangible thing in the territory of money, worth, or embodiment. One. Tend it like a seedling.
Watch what shows up at the full moon. The Sagittarius full moon tends to reveal where you have been lying to yourself with enthusiasm. Listen without fixing.
Let the season turn. The shift into Gemini on May 20 is a permission slip to be curious again. Take it.
May is the month the new reality gets a body. Walk slowly into it.
