Profile 6/2 — Role Model / Hermit. One of 12 profile lines in Human Design.
The 6/2 profile is one of the most quietly powerful in Human Design. You are wired to live a three-act life of trial, withdrawal, and approach, and to do most of it on your own. There is nothing flashy about a 6/2 by default, and that is the point. Your authority does not come from being loud. It comes from being a real example.
Two Lines, One Body
The 6th line is the Role Model, and the 2nd line is the Hermit. Together they create someone who is both meant to be seen and instinctively drawn to disappear. This is not a contradiction to resolve. It is the design.
The Role Model line lives through experience first. You try things, often the hard way, so that you can later stand behind what you know. The Hermit line needs time alone to integrate those experiences, to hear yourself think, and to recognize what is actually yours to share. The 2 also brings a natural talent into the chart, something you may not fully identify or value until life calls it out of you.

Calculate your chartThe Three-Act Arc of the 6th Line
The 6th line famously moves through three phases, which in the 6/2 are amplified by the hermit energy:
- Trial (roughly 0 to 28–30): You are here to bump into life. Jobs, relationships, mistakes, sudden bursts of insight, quiet detours. The point is not to get it right early. The point is to gather real, embodied material you can later speak from with honesty.
- Withdrawal (around the Saturn return): Something in you pulls back. You may lose interest in scenes you once enjoyed, or life itself may rearrange so that you have more space. This is the hermit phase doing its work, not a failure or a depression to fix.
- Approach (after 30, and increasingly with age): You re-emerge as a more objective, less reactive version of yourself. This is when your role model quality becomes visible, not because you perform it, but because you have actually lived enough to be one.
The Hermit's Real Gift
The 2nd line is often misread as antisocial or lazy. In practice, the hermit quality of the 6/2 is a form of self-respecting selectivity. You are not here to be available to everyone. You are not built for constant community, endless online presence, or being "on" by default.
Healthy withdrawal looks like protecting unstructured time without justifying it, letting calls go to voicemail without guilt, saying no to rooms that drain you even useful ones, and letting your natural talent stay quiet until it is genuinely called for. When you honor the hermit, you return to the world with clearer eyes. When you override it, you tend to burn out or become quietly bitter.
Where the Shadow Shows Up
A 6/2 in shadow often falls into one of two patterns. Either the hermit has overpowered the role model, and the person disappears, hides their gifts, and resents the world for not finding them. Or the role model has overpowered the hermit, and the person performs wisdom they have not fully earned, repackaging other people's ideas as their own lived truth.
A quick honest check: if you are offering guidance but rarely take time alone, or if you are taking time alone but refusing to step back into view when life invites you, you are probably living in one of those imbalances.
Practical Guidance for the 6/2
The corrections for both shadows live in the same place: return to your strategy and authority, and then let the two lines do their dance. A 6/2 does not need to decide once and for all whether to hide or to teach. The design is movement between those poles, held together by the body you actually have. Treat the trial years as material rather than identity. Honor the withdrawal when it comes rather than medicating it away. And when the approach phase opens, let yourself be found by what is genuinely yours, instead of performing a version of wisdom you shortcut through.
In practical terms, protect real solitude as a non-negotiable, the same way you would protect sleep. Build your life so that withdrawing does not require explanation or apology. Notice the difference between your natural talent and what you have absorbed from others, and stop offering the borrowed stuff as if it were lived. When you share, anchor it in something your own body has actually been through; that is what makes a 6/2 a true role model rather than a repackager of other voices. If you are uncertain whether to step forward or pull back, ask your authority. It will tell you which phase you are meant to be in right now, and it will spare you the cost of choosing from the mind.
