When the Sun transits Gate 17 — "Opinions," the hexagram Sui, or Following — the collective throat opens a little wider. This gate lives in the Throat Center and forms the Channel of Acceptance (17-62) when paired with Gate 62, the channel traditionally called the "Channel of Organization." For roughly five and a half days, the transit amplifies our relationship to what we think, what we say, and whether what we say actually follows through into action. Opinions become currency.
What This Transit Activates
Gate 17 is fundamentally about following. Not blind following, but the kind of alignment that happens when a logical principle clicks into place and the mouth opens to declare it. The gift of this gate is acceptance — the capacity to recognize a coherent truth and align with it without forcing or manipulating. Its shadow is opinionatedness for its own sake: gossip, judgment, criticism that carries no real conviction.

Calculate your chartDuring the transit, expect:
- A spike in declarative statements on social media, at the dinner table, in meetings.
- A pull toward sorting — who you agree with, who you don't, who is "in" and who is "out."
- A desire to organize information: making lists, ranking, evaluating, judging.
- The hidden question underneath everything: do you actually follow through on what you say?
Because the Sun and Earth always sit in opposing gates, the transit also illuminates Gate 7 — the shadow hexagram — and themes of leadership, armies, and the self versus the group. People will choose sides quickly. Be aware that the energy of "us against them" is part of the same activation.
Who Feels It Most
This transit lands hardest on:
- Those with Gate 17 or 62 defined. They carry this energy permanently, and during the transit it amplifies, sometimes uncomfortably. The throat wants to talk; the question is whether the words are worth speaking.
- Generators and Manifesting Generators with the 17-62 Channel. Their sacral is wired to opinions that follow from gut truth. The transit is a mirror, not new input.
- Projectors with Throat access. Invitations to speak may surge. The pull is real, but the strategy remains: wait.
- Reflectors. They sample the room's opinions like weather and will feel the collective sorting especially intensely.
- Anyone facing a major decision. Gate 17 transits tend to crystallize what one stands for.
How to Ride It Correctly by Strategy & Authority
The temptation of Gate 17 is to voice every logical conclusion that arrives. The wisdom is selective acceptance — only the opinions that actually follow from your truth.
Generators & MGs: Let opinions rise from the sacral. If your gut generates a response, speak. If it doesn't, let the moment pass. Forced opinions drain you and rarely last. Let silence do the work rather than filling every gap with a view.
Projectors: Wait for recognition and invitation before turning an opinion into guidance. Correct timing gives your words weight.
Manifestors: If you feel moved to initiate, inform the people affected. The value of the opinion is clearest when others know where it leads.
Reflectors: Take your time. A full lunar cycle can show whether the prevailing opinion fits your environment or simply reflects the people around you.
Whatever your design, let the transit clarify your position without making certainty a performance. Say what you can support, follow what you genuinely accept, and let action reveal whether the words were alive.
