Transits affect everyone. Know what energy is active today.
A Human Design chart is not a static portrait. It is a wiring diagram, and the universe keeps switching parts of it on and off. That is what transits are: the slow-motion overlay of today's planets onto your natal geometry, and the single most practical tool in HD for knowing when a theme will actually land in your life.
The Two Speeds of Influence
Most of what you feel day to day is the Sun. It moves roughly one degree per day, so it passes through a gate in anywhere from a few days to a little over a week, depending on the gate's width on the wheel. That is why a Sun-transit reading for a given day can land on a specific line — the energy is precise and short. People with that gate defined will get a brief amplification. People with it open will temporarily condition into it through the people around them.
The slower movers — Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto — are the ones that actually reshape your chart for months or years. Pluto takes about 248 years to circle the wheel, so a Pluto transit through a single gate can last one to three years. When a slow planet activates a gate you have defined, you do not just feel a theme. You live it. When it lights up a center you have open, the same window of time becomes a season of conditioning you have to consciously navigate.

The real headline event in transit work is a channel "wiring up." A channel only expresses when both of its gates are activated at the same time. The transit does not care whether those activations come from your natal chart or from a moving planet. It simply asks: are both gates currently on?
When a transit closes both gates of, say, the 20-34 Channel of Charisma, the body wants to broadcast. For the length of that transit, you have access to that channel's gift. With the gift comes its shadow: in the 20-34, the tendency is to read the room and perform what is wanted rather than what is true. Knowing which channel is live means you can use the gift without sliding into the trap.
Undefined Centers in Transit
An open center behaves differently in transit than a defined one. A defined center is yours. A planet passing through it amplifies a frequency you already live in. An undefined center is a place where you take in and magnify whatever a transit brings. When a slow planet sits in an open center for weeks or months, the conditioning around that theme becomes loud, and most of what you call "me" during that window is actually the people and circumstances the transit has hooked you into. Strategy and authority matter most here, because they are the only part of the operating system that stays recognizably yours while the open center is being amplified.
The distortion looks like identity. You start to believe the busyness of the open center is your nature, especially with centers that touch daily life. The correction is not to white-knuckle the center closed. The correct move is to lower the volume: less attention to the story the center is telling, more attention to what strategy and authority say is correct. The transit will pass. Your undefined center is meant to be a sampling tool, not a home, and the people whose defined centers are lighting up that same gate are the wisdom to listen to while the transit is running.
Watch the slow planets especially. A Moon transit lasts under three hours. A Sun transit lasts a week. Pluto in an open center can run for years, and in that stretch it is easy to mistake the conditioning for a permanent change in who you are. It is not. It is weather, and the chart beneath the weather is still yours.
