Why Journal by Design?
Journaling is one of the most effective tools for deconditioning in Human Design. By recording observations, you start seeing Not-Self patterns and moments when you're living according to your design. But the journaling format must match your type, otherwise it becomes another "should" on the list.
Generator: Response Journal
- Daily entry: "What did I respond to today? What brought satisfaction?"
- Frustration markers — record every moment of irritation and its cause
- Body sensations — describe how your body reacts to different situations
- Format — handwritten, brief, 5-10 minutes in the evening
- Question: "Did I use sacral energy on the right things?"
Projector: Recognition Journal
- Daily entry: "Where was I invited today? Where was my value recognized?"
- Bitterness moments — when the urge to give unsolicited advice arises
- Energy level — track when you're drained and why
- Format — detailed entries, typing is fine, 15-20 minutes
- Question: "Did I allow myself to rest when I needed to?"
Manifestor: Impulse Journal
- Record impulses — every idea, urge to act, inspiration
- Informing tracking — "Did I inform others before acting?"
- Anger moments — who or what limited your freedom?
- Format — irregular, by impulse, in any format
- Question: "Did I act from my own impulse or others' expectations?"
MG: Multi-Journal
- Different formats — text one day, voice memo the next, sketch the third
- Track "skipped steps" — where did your non-linearity lead to success?
- Informing — did you warn others about plan changes?
- Quick entries — 3-5 minutes max, no perfectionism
Reflector: Lunar Journal
- 28-day cycle — keep entries through a full lunar cycle
- Environmental influence — "How do I feel in this place? With these people?"
- Disappointment moments — where didn't the environment meet your needs?
- Format — brief daily entries + monthly summary
- Question: "Does my mood reflect me or my surroundings?"
Journaling by Centers
For deeper work, add questions for undefined centers:
- Head — "Whose thoughts was I thinking today?"
- Heart — "Was I trying to prove my worth?"
- Solar Plexus — "Did I avoid truth to keep someone from being upset?"
- Root — "Did I rush because of someone else's pressure?"
Practical Steps
- Calculate your bodygraph — identify type and undefined centers
- Choose a journaling format for your type
- Start with 5 minutes per day
- After a month, reread entries — you'll see patterns
"Journaling is a conversation with yourself. And the first thing you'll learn is to tell your voice from someone else's."
